The participants of a physical modeling meeting held on February 1st 2000 at LSI Logic recommend the following proposal for approval by the OVI board. The recommendation reflects the opinion of the individual attendees. The ALF standard shall define only the description capability. It shall NOT be mandatory that ALF libraries contain ALL information describable in the ALF language. In particular, ALF libraries containing no physical information as well as ALF libraries containing only physical information shall be valid, if they conform to the ALF language. B) The proposed ALF 2.0 release shall include the physical library description features. C) The proposed ALF 2.0 release is still on schedule for Q1 2000. That means that the contents of the ALF 2.0 will be complete in Q1 2000. OVI shall own the schedule for the approval cycle. However, official approval of ALF 2.0 as OVI standard is desired before end of Q2 2000. D) The ALF/OPEF workgroup will continue and enhance its existing working relationship with the OLA workgroup. Joint meetings are recommended, in order to ensure data model compatibility. E) IEEE standardization will be initiated immediately after the OVI approval of ALF 2.0, in the process of which the copyright for ALF 2.0 will be transferred from OVI to IEEE. F) IEEE ALF shall have its own PAR number and schedule. However, ALF and OLA shall be positioned as related standards in the description of both PARs. Therefore the IEEE ALF workgroup will closely collaborate with the IEEE OLA workgroup. G) The physical design description language may be developed as the PEF standard under the auspices of OVI. H) The PEF workgroup should seek collaboration with SI2 in order to ensure datamodel compatibility with DEF and CHDstd. I) The formation of a steering committee comprising representatives from EDA vendors, ASIC vendors, system companies is recommended. The purpose of this steering committee is to create consensus within the industry, endorse and promote the technical work. Existing standardization organizations such as OVI, SI2 or others can jointly serve as embodiment of such a steering committee. J) A relationship of this work with SIPPS is recommended based on requirements for technology representation within the scope of this work.
