The General Constraint Format (GCF) is a Cadence-proprietary format
which is used by a number of the Cadence tools and the customers
who use those tools.
Cadence has made the GCF language description available for review
purposes to the Design Constraints Working Group, but has not transferred
ownership to OVI or other standards bodies. Cadence has not put GCF
into the public domain. Although the GCF documentation is available on
the DC-WG web site, the restriction on how it may be used is clearly
noted there.
Some confusion about the status of GCF isn't surprising. Unfortunately
there have been several conflicting statements from different people
at Cadence who weren't familiar with the details. I'm working to avoid
this kind of miscommunication in the future.
The General Constraint Language (GCL) is not directly related to GCF.
It was a partially completed language defined by the OVI Synthesis
Constraints Working Group (SC-WG) as a potential industry standard.
Since the SC-WG effort has been subsumed by DC-WG, I expect that the
original definition of GCL will not be used except as a reference
in developing the DC-WG standard.
