VASG Issue Number: 0180 Comment Author: Clive Charlwood for Sivaram Nayudu Comment Number: 01 Comment Date: 1991/03/22 Analysis is based design unit not on design unit because LRM 11.4 specifies that a primary unit must be analyzed prior to the analysis of any corresponding secondary unit. If we disallow two design units with same name in a design file, there are potential problems. First case is differentiating re-analysis of the same file after some error(s) in the file in one or more of the design design units. Now we have to address the issue of re-analyzing the same file. Second case is design unit with the same name but these two design units reside in two different design files. Conclusion: Either 10.2 or 10.4 of LRM should include: It is not an error to have two design units with the same name in a design file or different files. The last analyzed design unit will be contained in the design library as a result of the order of analysis of design units contained in a design file.
