Minutes of ISAC meeting held via telecom on 20 January 2005 Present: Peter Ashenden, Larry Soule, Chuck Swart, Ajay Varikat Absent: Jim Lewis, Deepak Pant Next Meeting: Thursday 03 February 2005, 7 pm Pacific Time TOPIC: VHDL2002 LCSs We need on-line copies of these LCSs. ACTION: Chuck to find them. NOTE: The LCSs are now available in a single document in the isac private doc area at eda.org. The document name is VHDL98LCS.pdf TOPIC: IR2055 Prohibition on assignment of protected types not normative The submitter is correct that the prohibition on assignment of protected types is not normative. However, his suggestion to move notes 2 and 3 in 8.5 to normative text is not quite correct and needs more careful word smithing. ACTION: Chuck to analyze, then all to vote. TOPIC: IR2056 Can an attribute name that denotes a function be used where a name is required? The submitter's suggestion that attribute names be forbidden as resolution functions is accepted. ACTION: Larry to analyze. Chuck to check Ada. Note from Chuck: A brief look at Ada seems to indicate that attributes cannot syntactically be used where function names are required. TOPIC: IR2013 Exact subtype "matching" for port associations It was agreed that requiring exact subtype matching for scalar port associations is unduly restrictive. The best solution is to allow broadening/narrowing of subtypes as appropriate for both port maps and subprogram calls. In the rare cases where this is not adequate the designer can use type conversions for port maps. ACTION: Chuck to reanalyze. TOPIC: IR2023 Add predefined array types for integer, boolean, real and time This is ready for ISAC approval. ACTION: All to vote on. TOPIC: IR2024 VHDL needs encryption support This should be forwarded to fast-track ACTION: All to vote on. TOPIC: IR2025 "Generate" for sequential code Peter's analysis is accepted. ACTION: Chuck to forward to VHDL-200x TOPIC: IR2028 Clarify simulation cycle Waiting for VHPI input. TOPIC: IR2038 Minor semantic errors ACTION: All to review for next meeting. TOPIC: IR2041 Association of members is too restricted ACTION: ALL to vote on forwarding this IR to M&P TOPIC: IR2042 Architecture as a block causes problems Peter is still working on this.Another incompatibility was observed. Under the old rules, a subprogram declaration could occur in an entity, with the subprogram body in the architecture. If an architecture is a separate block, then this becomes illegal. TOPIC: IR2043 Numeric VALUE attribute parameter can't have sign No action taken on this. TOPIC: IR2044 Deprecation of linkage ports affects boundary scan description language This IR was approved. ACTION: Chuck to submit to VASG chair. TOPIC: IR2048 Miscellaneous errors Typo was discovered in problem 1) Review will continue next meeting. ACTION: Chuck to update analysis.
