Chuck,

You point out that there is a question of order of calling the impure
functions. I believe that there are other cases where the order of
evaluating expressions involving impure functions is not specified, leading
to possible non-portability. I don't think the issue you raise should be an
impediment to relaxing the staticness requirement on the for-generate range.
