Minutes of ISAC meeting held via telecom on 07 September 2006 Present: Peter Ashenden, Jim Lewis, Larry Soule, Chuck Swart, Ajay Verikat Absent: Lance Thompson Next Meeting: Thursday, September 28, 2006, 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time (Friday, September 29, 2006, 2 am GMT ) TOPIC: New IRs There are no new IRs. However, either Chuck or a Modeltech User will submit one requesting that when unconstrained formals are associated using subelement association, then the direction of a sliced subelement be used to determine the direction of the actual. TOPIC: IR 2096 Error is ambiguous It was agreed that the LRM identifies certain cases in which errors will be indicated via assertions or assertion-like messages. In all other cases of errors the implementation is allowed to choose the form of the error message and the appropriate action. In particular, it may either generate assertion-like messages or some other form of tool-dependent message. Although this might create differences in actions taken by different implementations, it was decided that if more specific rules were adopted, then troublesome backward compatibility issues (with respect to a given tool) could result. ACTION: Peter to analyze. TOPIC: IR 2097 Operations with Array aggregates The code fragment appears to be perfectly legal, and its not clear why a tool might reject this. ACTION: Lance to analyze. TOPIC: IR 2098 Ambiguity in definition of T'VAL for Physical types This IR is ISAC approved. ACTION: Chuck to fix minor typo and forward to VASG. TOPIC: IR 2099 Alias declarations introduce homographs Several examples were examined. The general principle is something like: "An alias declaration for a type introduces implicit declarations for each associated predefined operator provided that it is not a homograph of another declaration declared in the same declarative region." Also, John Ries submitted some additional cases. ACTION: Chuck to continue the analysis. TOPIC: IR 2100 Operator overloading for protected type methods This issue needs to be addressed in the context of extending the language to allow class types. Peter produced discussions about these issues which were part of the VHDL200 effort. ACTION: Chuck to forward as an enhancement request, including a reference to the appropriate archived email. TOPIC: IR 2101 Type conversion - implicit refers to section 8.1.2 which doesn't exist No action since last meeting. ACTION: Larry to analyze. TOPIC: Review of new IRs incorporated into Accellera LRM ACTION: Chuck to assign two or three IRs to each ISAC member. ACTION: Review of old (pre-2002) IRs. The following were assigned. each reviewer determines whether or not the issue has been resolved or if it is still open. The reviewer is not expected to do a complete analysis of open issues. 1000 Peter 1001 Peter 1005 Ajay 1006 Chuck 1007 Lance? ACTION: Assignees to review his IR.
