Minutes of ISAC meeting held via telecon on 26 June 2008

Present: Peter Ashenden, Chuck Swart, Ajay Verikat

Absent: Jim Lewis, Larry Soule, Lance Thompson

Next meeting: Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 8 pm Pacific Daylight time
              (Thursday, July 3, 2008, 3 am GMT)

NOTE: Day change from Thursday to Wednesday because of July 4 Holiday
in U.S.

TOPIC: IEEE Ballot

There have been 16 votes received, 15 affirmative, 1 abstention. No
new comments have been submitted. It seems that the IEC representative
has changed from Alex to Dennis Brophy. Jim thinks that the
interaction with IEC is working correctly, but Chuck will check to see
if there is anything more we need to do.

ACTION: Chuck to contact IEC representative.

TOPIC: IR 2133 Not locally static expression is synthesized but not
compiled for simulation

Peter will analyze.

ACTION: Peter to analyze.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 235 Error in name of property of foreignf class

The analysis is accepted.

ACTION: Assign to Peter.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 236 Wrong case for specName property of blockConfig class

The analysis is accepted.

ACTION: Assign to Peter. Chuck to inform vhpi group about 235 and 236.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 220 Inconsistent use of vhpiIntT and int

Peter presented a more complete analysis, the result of which was to
choose the alternate solution (to make the return type vhpiIntT
instead of int). This change was accepted.

ACTION: Make Bugz status resolved,fixed.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 229 Is type vhpiIntT signed or unsigned?

LRM was updated as decided last meeting. Bugz status resolved, fixed.

ACTION: None.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 227 Glossary entry for expanded name has incorrect reference

LRM was updated as decided last meeting. Bugz status resolved, fixed.

ACTION: None.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 231 process( all ) -- compiler cannot infer the sensitivity list

Proposed wording was accepted.

ACTION: Make Bugz status resolved,fixed.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 213 Can a force signal assignment update ports of mode IN?

Wording was reviewed and accepted.

ACTION: Make Bugz status resolved,fixed.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 233 Vhpi_user.h requires enum types contents update/completion

Peter completed analysis of open cases. LRM changes were accepted.

ACTION: Make Bugz status resolved,fixed.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 234 Backward incompatibility for std_logic_textio selected names

The "IS name" part of the alias declarations was inadvertently omitted from the alias
declarations.

ACTION: Peter to update.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 218 Permitted access into encrypted code unclear

There are some open issues which will not be dealt with for the
200X version.
It was agreed that the resolution should be changed to LATER

NOTE: Same action (resolution changed to LATER) done for 206 and 207.

ACTION: Make Bugz status resolved,later.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 237 Representation of negative time values with vhpiTimeT

Proposed solution is accepted.

ACTION: Assign to Peter.

TOPIC: Bugzilla 238 What is vhpiBootstrapFctT for in vhpi_user.h?

Proposed solution is accepted.

ACTION: Assign to Peter.

TOPIC: Move from IR data base to Bugzilla

For the most part, Bugzilla has been a better mechanism for tracking
issues. The older IR mechanism required that status changed be done
by hand. There are some problems with bugzilla. One major issue is
that the basic mechanism of adding a sequence of comments to track
development can be very cumbersome for wide open issues for which
there are many possible solutions (One IR had more than 9 revisions.)
There are a couple of ways of dealing with this. One solution is to
put the analysis in attachments, which can be deleted. A second is to
allow comments, but when some consensus is reached issue a new Bugz
and make the old one dependent on the new.

Note added in writeup. A current administrative problem is that
currently anyone can change status of a Bugz. This is potentially
dangerous.

ACTION: Peter to move current open IRs to Bugzillas against VHDL-2002
(done, see below). Chuck to update eda.org mechanisms to replace IR
generation with Bugzilla entry. Also, Chuck to update Bugzilla home
page with information on searching, creating bugz, etc.

NOTE: IR 2130 Ability to overload the assignment operator := would be useful
is now Bugz 239.
IR 2131 Vhpi_user.h requires enum types contents update/completion
is now Bugz 233.
IR 2132 Method to allow functions that return arrays to have knowledge of the array bounds
is now Bugz 240.
IR 2133 Not locally static expression is synthesized but not compiled for simulation
is now Bugz 241.
