Updates from P1800 WG --------------------------------------------------------------- p1800WG August 11 2011 meeting updates. No major updates. 4. Continue Review and discussion of top 25 issues and categories: ------------------------------------------------------ 22 mantis items shown below 10 - have proposals 9 - no proposal 1 - approved by Champions with a friendly amendment -- no committee work req 1 - has been approved and implemented 1 - is for editorial issues 3531, 2905, 3394 From Shalom's email. 3531 Mark - was going to update the proposal. - He will take a look at it. AI: Mark to finalize the modified proposal. 2905 (from Shalom) Mehdi - asked for email responses on it. 2506 Coverage Scott - Jonathan has pointed out a couple of things. - would like to clean up those before voting. Arturo - reviewed it, and thinks it looks good. Scott - Jonathan's feedback is related to the BNF changes. - one item had to do with whether arrays are allowed. Arturo - the intent is to allow arrays. Scott - Jonathan thought the current BNF may not actually allow them. - Brad suggested some changes, which have been made. - Jonathan's issues will be addressed over the reflector. Mehdi - expecting to vote on it next time. 1356 Interface Classes [Multiple inheritance] [Tom, Brandon] 1356_Interface_Classes_rev4.pdf Brandon - all feedback has been incorporated (rev 9). Gord - rev 9 has not been uploaded yet. - can't use word inheritance since that is not what is taking place Brandon - are there any additional issues? Gord - he will need to review the whole rev 9 proposal Arturo - this one shouldn't go up for an email vote. 2848 Is it legal to assign an interface containing class declaration to a virtual interface [Francoise] [was held for a few meetings: sv-bc was also looking at interfaces] Francoise - the svbc has not decided anything for interfaces. - that discussion resulted in a deadlock. Gord - there is resistance, even though ill-defined behavior, due to ad hoc approaches that exist today. - not sure how to go about getting consensus today. Arturo - an interface is a way for a class to get access to signals. - using it as a container. - that is where a lot of issues come up . Gord - a set of combinations of features is what is causing issues. - bind, interfaces, virtual interface together are causing issues. - The current use model was not what was expected. Mark - an interface port doesn't have a datatype - a virtual interface is a type(?) - This creates a big inconsistency in the language. Gord - all of the type rules come into play when dealing with something that is typed. Francoise - the type of an interface - the subject of 2848 and 2845 Gord - the only way to deal with it would be at the working group level. - there will be legacy incompatibilities somewhere. - We won't be able to get consensus in the TC's Arturo - when used as a port object Mark - design unit and a data type Arturo - not clear that it is a data type. Gord - that is the source of a lot of the issues. - order of compilation, when objects come into existence, etc. - thinks it is way too late for this PAR. Mehdi - plans to bring this up to the P1800. AI: Mehdi to ask the p1800WG to look into this how to resolve and discuss. 2845 virtual interface type checking versus interface type that had been defparam'ed [Francoise] - has a proposal 3002 Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) features [Tom] - has a proposal 3046 Dotted names within inlined constraints [Gord] - has a proposal Gord - hasn't heard back from others on the issues. - suggests that it go up for an email vote. - needs suggested changes. - Not sure how to satisfy others on this one. Gord - the case to exclude, if have a.b.c if try to resolve in the scope of the randomize class, the normal resolution rules would allow you to go upwards in the scope. For this case we need to disallow that. Arturo - doesn't have an objection to that. - wasn't clear about the need for the second new sentence. Francoise - you jump to the scope of the randomize class instead of going up in the tree. Gord - the normal rules say before capturing the first part of the name, you go up in the scope. Arturo - worried about the scope of the declaration of the class. - now he got what Gord was concerned about. - if fail to resolve down, then jump to scope of randomize call. Gord - "downward" means the next component. first component of a dotted name have special rules, which is where the upward rules kick in. Arturo - if the first part doesn't resolve. Only initiate a separate search when there is no anchor. Gord - the first component of a dotted name, shall resolve in the scope of the randomize class. Steven - only move to the scope of the inline constraint if not found downward. Arturo - if the first component of a dotted name,... - if find first component in the class, that is an error. Gord - that is an edge case that is not so clear. - static method - is a scope (?) - only if anchor to a variable that it would be an error. Francoise - this paragraph needs to be expanded. Gord - doesn't want to duplicate a lot of stuff from other sections. Francoise - add a reference to downward resolution? Gord - 23.7 is the closest thing Steven - Gord is happy with the existing text, would like someone else to come up with something better, if this is not good enough. Gord - the rules are so convoluted today that we can't fully qualify the set of rules in this section. Gord - 23.8 b) describes a downward search Arturo - section 23 already has some ambiguity, we could refer to it. Gord - is willing to remove the word 'strictly' Steven - user needs to understand it doesn't refer to the upward search that is described elsewhere. Gord - once you go into a variable select, if it doesn't resolve it is an error. A variable select could be on a struct or a class Arturo - when searching within a class, you need to also check the base classes. - Gord is trying to exclude an upward search at the point of instance of the class. Steven - the special rule is for resolving in the scope of the class. It is only a downward search for this situation. Move: Gord to approve 3046_inline_dotted_names_rev3.pdf Second: Arturo Abstain: Opposed: Mark, opposing it does not address all ambiguity, leaves too much existing ambiguity in the language. 3046 approved with one NO vote. Arturo - change "fails to resolve" to something else? - "does not resolve" Other changes that need to be made - font changes also required - add mantis number to the top - remove the mentor copyright notice at the bottom. Arturo - there is another related section that is ambiguous. 2987 Soft Constraints [Tom] Proposal Mantis2987_SoftConstraintsProposal.pdf is uploaded for discussion. Dirag - a way to avoid randomization errors. - a 'soft' qualifier has been introduced. Arturo - is 'soft' context-sensitive? Steven, Ray - we need to avoid doing that. Steven - we could use 'weak' if we want to avoid creating a new keyword. Dave - today we have the concept of weak and strong assertions. - adding new keywords is a big hassle for a lot of users. - could use soft as a method Brandon - it should be based on line-by-line usage. - would be ok with using weak. Arturo - we might be able to use :soft Dirag - a property of a constraint expression, not the whole constraint. Brandon - Had a question concerning priorities of soft constraints. Ray - first use the hard constraints and then start to introduce the soft constraints. Dirag - different solvers can behave in different ways. We can't describe it that way. Gord - not sure if the rules are sufficient to define a total ordering defined and complete for complex constraints. Dirag - believes that this is a complete proposal. Arturo - thinks you take all constraints together, if there are contradictions, you start throwing things out. Gord - understands the model, but not of the completeness. Steven - concerned about possible inefficiency. Dirag - it is an NP-hard problem. Dave - what is a soft distribution? Ray - didn't realize that was in there. Dirag - there is an example that could be added to the proposal. Arturo - a distribution can't cause a failure. Ray - it could... Gord - examples aren't normative. 2988 Defaults Constraints [Tom] -- no proposal 2993 Coverage Cross cover points across different cover groups [Arturo, Swapnajit] -- no proposal 3082 Daniels' top items [3075, 3076, 3077, 3078, 3079, 3080, 3081] -- no proposal, has a presentation only 3003 constraint composition [Jonathan, Tom, Ray, Arturo] - has a proposal 2735 ballot comment #48, chaining.. [Arturo, Steven, Gord] -- no proposal 3001 Proper Polymorphic behavior of instantiation [Jonathan, Tom, Francoise] - has a proposal 2999 Class Handle reference inside of Constraints [Tom, Ray, Arturo] -- no proposal 1706 Meaning of static prefix for virtual interface assignments [Mark, Steven, Francoise] -- no proposal 2488 Are virtual method calls legal within class constructors? [Steven, Francoise] -- no proposal 1442 Clocking blocks legal in modports, missing from text description in 20.9 [Steven] -- no proposal 3254 18.5.6 if-else constraints mistakenly uses the work "block" when it means "set" - has been approved and completed 3230 task should be function in definition of static functions - there is a proposal - 2794 Clarify queue methods return status - approved by champions with a friendly amendment 1067 LRM consistency issues regarding access to nonexistent array elements. 1067-proposal-revA.pdf (related to sv-bc) - has a proposal 3589 Created for editorial issues. 5.
