Approval of Agenda ------------------------------------------------------ Additions/modifications to the agenda by members. Jonathan: correction for soft constraints, 3003, 2987, 2988 Mehdi: I will make the modification, they are all combined in here, it should be 3003 [constraint composition], 2987 for soft constraint and 2988 is also for default constraint. Move: Tom to approve Second: Arturo Abstain: Opposed: Unanimoulsy approved. 1. Review IEEE patent policy ------------------------------------------------------ http://standards.ieee.org/board/pat/pat-slideset.ppt Move: Tom to assume it has been read Second: Steven Abstain: Opposed: Unanimoulsy approved 2. Approval of previous meetings minutes: ------------------------------------------------------ Minutes from May 9 2011 meetings http://www.eda.org/sv-ec/Minutes/SV-EC_Meeting_May_9_2011_Minutes.txt Move: Francoise Second: Tom Abstain: Opposed: minutes approved 3. Updates from P1800 WG --------------------------------------------------------- updates from May 12 2011 meeting. Neil: Accellera did anounce the DRAs for all sv subcommittees 4 DRAs. Ben Cohen sv-ac Peter Flake sv-bc Ian Wilson sv-dc Jonathan Bromley sv-ec If pure editorial issues, we can create a mantis item and assign it to the editor. Stu: it would be nice to have a mantis item to go throuhg changes, Neil: Do not 'assign' it to anyone, just set the 'status' to Editor. If issues are truly editorial, they don't need to go through a committee vote. The Editor has the right to reject anything that he feels is not truly editorial. If you are unsure if something is strictly editorial, it should be brought to the attention of the technical committee. Stu: we could move them to the editor state right before each draft closes. One mantis item per committee should be enough. AI/Mehdi - create an sv-ec mantis item for editorial issues 4a. Update and Review from email vote (ended May 11 2011) --------------------------------------------------------- [9 mantis items: 3046, 2506, 3531, 3394, 2905, 3254, 3298, 3054] PASSed: 2935, 3254, 2905, NOT PASSed: 3046, 2506, 3531, 3394, 3298, 3054 Consider the above 6 items and vote. 2506 non-trivial coverage space Francoise - Swapnajit(Cadence) had some comments Scott - responded to those comments. Francoise - one of those had to do with the BNF changes. Scott - at the bottom of page 3, there was a question of adding bin names to the list. - "Identifiers within the coverpoint are restricted to constant expressions (see 11.2.1), instance constants (for an embedded covergroup), or non-ref arguments to the covergroup." Ray - not sure what it means to refer to a bin here. Arturo - a coverpoint can't refer to a coverpoint Neil - page 12, an extra ")" needs to be removed. Neil: one minor, unmatched paranthesis, 19.6.1.2, Move: Arturo Second: Scott Abstain: Steven, [Not fully up to speed on this issue/subject] Opposed: Version 6, with 2 friendly amendments. 4b. Continue Review and discussion of top 25 issues and categories: ------------------------------------------------------ Review of the top 25 [+10+3]; 9 have been approved. 3278 virtual method type rules [Francoise] [Merged with 3279, 3279 can be closed now] Francoise - made some wording changes after the last meeting. Arturo - it is a bit wordy but seems to be right. Jonathan - the last sentence of the first blue paragraph is not correct. - we need to say it more clearly. - Which class is being referred to (super class) gets lost when the text gets split this way in the most recent version. Arturo - the return type of a virtual Francoise - tweaked the text in the meeting... with input from the committee Mehdi - It will be part of the email vote on Friday. 3279 Enhance method override rules to allow covariant typing [Francoise] 3293 Clarify $cast behavior on class handles [Jonathan ] Arturo - made some updates based on recent commitee discussion. Dave - it would be more clear to say "literal null" in item 3. Jonathan - is there a definition of "cast compatible" somewhere? Arturo - it is different from assignment compatible. Dave - this section is defining it. Arturo - there is a section on cast compatability. Steven - a literal null is allowed in a straight assignment. It should also be allowed in a $cast. - c-handles and events can also be null. It is a different "kind of null". Arturo - got rid of a lot of the original set of proposed changes Jonathan - in the original proposal he had tried to clean up a lot of the existing text where he found it confusing. Steven - the handle has a type, it can refer to an instance of that type or of an object that is a more derived version of that type. Jonathan - it doesn't make sense to say source_handle and dest_handle in the text. Arturo - it is checking the type of the object. Jonathan - it has to be the object that you are looking at. - Thinks this sentence can be removed, given that there is an enumerated list below it. Steven - the sentence is meant to briefly summarize what happens so as to make it easier for the reader to not get lost in the details. Jonathan - the 3 rules are very clear, but doesn't like the one-liner. "When used with object handles, $cast checks the hierarchy tree (super and subclasses) of the source_handle to see whether it contains the class of dest_handle." Arturo - could move some of that after the rest of the text. Mehdi - it will also go up for an email vote this Friday. 1356 Interface Classes [Multiple inheritance] [Tom, Brandon] 1356_Interface_Classes_rev4.pdf Tom - made all updates with all feedback to the proposal, based on the last set of inputs, Francoise inputs were also placed. Francoise- has not reviewed the lastest update. Tom didn't understand some of her feedback. Neil - prefers for it to go up for an email vote Steven - not prepared for a vote today Dave (Gord) - he had a marked up copy of the proposal. Could be new issues. Francoise- has some additional issues that have not been sent out yet. Mehdi - wants feedback to be sent out by this Wed PM. Tom could update it. Could possibly put it up for an email vote on Friday. Steven - people usually make time to review the proposal for email votes Francoise- this one is a large proposal. Tom - will change the proposal to make it clear that extending an interface class is similar to extending a virtual class. Dave - pointed out a problem with an example (class fifo) a task is returning a value (page 2, possibly others as well). Dave - for interface classes there is no inheritance of types. - e.g. a typedef in an interface class Brandon - you would need to refer to the type statically. - you would need to refer to it through scoping. It would be used like a static variable. Steven - what was the reason for not inheriting? Brandon - not sure what the reason was at this point Dave - thinks it was related to the diamond problem. Steven - if the same identifier is defined in two places, you end up with a collision. Dave - There isn't an example showing how to get around this problem. An example should be added. - There is an example showing that it is not supported. Francoise- pointed out some text where it appeared this type of inheritance IS supported. Brandon - there is no inheritance when you "implement" - The proposal should be updated to make this clear. Jonathan - allow the inheritance, when there is a collision you need to reference them staticly. Steven - importing explicitly could create a collision Brandon - extends should not inherit? Steven - there could be special rules Arturo - that would be too fragile. Brandon - why have both extends and implements for an interface class? - an interface would extend another interface class. If do the following: when an interface class extend an interface class, no inheritance, why not just extend to implement? - exends - inherit types implements - doesn't inherit types Steven - extends only applies to one. Jonathan - why would colliding symbols becoming invisible be a problem? Arturo - that would be an error Jonathan - that makes it clear to the user what is wrong. Arturo - not sure what we get by making them invisible. Jonathan - it gives the implementation a chance to issue a useful message Steven - there could be a long chain of inheritance. The implements can't refer to something in the chain? Jonathan - all the symbols propogate all the way down. You ony get a collision when you try to use one of them. Steven - if introduce a new collision in the middle, you would need to possibly change lower level references to now be higher in the tree. Steven - possibly disallow inheriting each interface class possibly make a reference one level up? That could possibly be a way to pass types down? - They go up to where two interfaces were defined and choose one. Pass it down at every level. Brandon - could then have mixing extends with inheriting Arturo - need to do it at every step, not sure where will need it. Brandon - interface classes can only implement one? Steven - when a problem, may need to rework everything. Francoise- if have a type in an interface class. Brandon - what does Java do? There were 3 options discussed (not sure I have all 3 listed) Steven - it sounds like we aren't just talking about nit picky things. - we still have more work to do. AI: Tom to put an example for virtual class extending an IC, virtual classes extending IC is same as extending another virtual class. 5.
