Subject: P1666 news
Hi,
I am pleased to announce that P1666-2011 was approved by IEEE-SA RevCom and the IEEE-SA Standards Board at their recent meetings in Korea. The publication date has not yet been set, but an IEEE editor will be contacting me, and I'll work to get the standard published as soon as possible.
I'd like to thank all of the many volunteers who contributed to this effort. I find it significant that the technical work on this project was done without a single face to face meeting, and with only one phone meeting of the technical team. All other technical discussion was carried out on the technical reflector-a sterling example of how a standard can be done very well using the Internet in a situation where volunteer participants are in very different locations and time zones. Given that we had participants from North America, European and Asia, this reflector-based discussion approach was the best way to "meet" and make steady progress.
Of course, thanks also go to John Aynsley and Sofie Vandeputte, who acted expertly as technical lead and technical writer on the project. I think the high quality of John's work is already very obvious to all P1666 participants-without him we would have struggled mightily to get this done with as high quality in the timeframe that it was finished. Moreover, a sign of the high "technical editing" quality of the document that Sofie produced can be seen in the fact that the only questions I received prior to the RevCom meeting were about whether OSCI had transferred rights on SystemC properly to the IEEE. Generally as DASC chair, I an cc'd on multiple comments of an editorial nature as a standard approaches final approval. In this case, however, everything was in order with regard to the LRM's formatting etc. First time I have seen that happen.
It took well over a full year of work, and many, many technical discussions on the reflectors to get this done. Well done everyone!
Stan
