Verilog-AMS Committee Meeting Minutes - Feb 15 2007

From: Martin O'Leary <oleary_at_.....>
Date: Tue Feb 20 2007 - 21:37:39 PST
Attendees:
* David Miller, Freescale
* Patrick O'Halloran, Tiberon
* Boris Troyanovsky, Tiberon
* Marq Kole, NXP
* Martin O'Leary, Cadence

* new chapter 10 version uploaded with corrections from prior weeks.
Continued review of it ...

* pull in subset of strings from SV so that we have a proper string
datatype in analog
  - this will require chapter 3 to be updated and the BNF as well.
  - add note in clause 8 - that strings can only be access from analog
block

* use a new system function, $simparam$str, to access analysis_name or
other string simulator kernel parameters
that are of interested.

* remove %a code as will use string functional and $simparam$str instead

* refs to regs to be change to string expression
  - regs cannot be assigned in analog context

* remove $getc, $ungetc are character not string oriented.

* filter the $fscanf format codes so that only contains ones that make
sense for analog
 - add %r for consistency.

* remove string_type argument from $finish

* @final_step - runs after $finish ("accepted") occurs.
  - need to update chapter.

* $stop equivalent to $finish if simulator doesn't support interactive
prompt.

* comments from Geoffrey in earlier email;
  - In 1364, I think there's also a %L for library binding info; this is
missing from your table
    8-3 (8-3?  shouldn't it be 10-3?)
  - I have an open question to Shalom as to whether %L needs an
argument; I think (like %M) it doesn't.
  - Why should %a return "tran" if the analysis is not named??

  - Page 239: fix items in []
    If the type_string is set to current_analysis and $finish is called
during an accepted iteration,
    then the simulator [will] terminate the current analysis and start
the next analysis if one [is]
    requested. If not, the simulate [simulator] will exit.

  - In the next para (for immediate) you talk about the "simulation"
whereas the previous paragraphs
    talk about the "simulator." Recommend you be consistent.

  - Page 243 (29 of 52):
    Otherwise an error must be reported.
