VHDL Users' Group 127 Beaumont Avenue San Francisco, CA 94118 October Meeting Follow-up 27 Jul 1989 The October 23-26 meeting of the VHDL Users' Group was a great success with a 200% increase in participation compared with previous meetings in the field. The Sunday tutorial was well received as an introduction to language constructs. The nine sessions on Monday through Wednesday were well attended right up to the end. Dr. Clarence Thornton, our invited speaker, offered many insights as to why there is the push for VHDL within the DoD community. The meeting was successful largely due to the extensive work put out by the volunteer committee. Also important was the commitments of their respective companies, the vendor community and you -- the users. Those interested in helping out on future meetings are strongly urged to contact Randolph Harr at (415) 387-8262. You can get involved early and help shape the organization. Notebook of Sessions The 3-ring binder notebooks of the general sessions are available for purchase. Available are the single session meeting in June 1988 and the full eleven session notebook of the October meeting. Please contact Merry Bush at (415) 329-0510 for details. Missing Papers? For those of you who may have missed some of the handouts at the October meeting, there is a list below of those sessions and speakers for which there were NO handouts. For all other speakers and sessions, you should have a copy of their presentation. If you are missing any, please call Merry Bush at (415) 329-0510 to receive a copy. Also, someone left behind their general session notebook with miscellaneous other papers on Wednesday. The Hotel has returned it to us. The person who can describe the contents (other than what the VHDL Users' Group put in it!) can have it. Contact Merry Bush for details. The only papers not in your notebook should be: 1-1, 1-2, 2- 5, 3-2, 7-2, 7-4, 7-5, and 7-6. Note that there is no session 12. There is an informative insert for session 8 from John Hines labeled paper 8-0. If you are missing John Hines' paper or any other paper not listed above, call Merry Bush. October Meeting Attendance List If you attended the October VHDL Users' Group meeting, enclosed is the list of all attendees as requested by many of you. Use the list to contact those you met or listened to. Member List This update has been mailed to the full VHDL Users' Group Member list which numbers over 350 now. If you know of someone who would like to become a member, have them call or send the request to VHDL Users' Group, 127 Beaumont Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94118, (415) 387-8262. The organization is only as strong as the members make it. Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Spring this year. The final date and location in Washington was not ready by publication date but will be known soon. Openings for the meeting committee still exist. The technical program is still undefined and in need of volunteers. The next meeting will focus on government requirements for VHDL models. The Fall meeting will center on the commercial standardization activities. Even if you expressed interest in helping out on the Users' Group sign-up card, please contact us directly for active participation. VHDL Repository The VHDL Repository has been dormant for a few months -- more submissions are needed to make it a useful service. There is interest in creating greater access from Usenet/Bitnet/etc. via a separate bulletin board or other setup. Those with ideas and interest are asked to contact Randolph Harr or Hal Carter at (513) 475-3125. The updated details for accessing it are not available yet. To use, FTP over the Arpanet to SIMTEL20.ARPA. Log in as "anonymous" supplying any characters as a password. Look in the directory PD2: for details. Newsletter As an outgrowth of the Steering Committees' desire to disseminate information, the VHDL Users' Group is starting a newsletter. The funds from the October meeting will be used to initially seed the reproduction and mailing costs. The more active the participants and submissions, the better the newsletter will be. We encourage everyone to submit news worthy items that are of interest to the VHDL community. Our volunteer co-editors are Sean Ogle and Matt Lussier of Hughes Aircraft Company. Please submit all ideas, comments, and articles for publication to them. They can be reached at: Sean Ogle or Matt Lussier Hughes Aircraft Company M.S. RS/R1/C314 P.O.
