Charles Stewart

Charles Stewart is co-editor of Imagining the Twentieth Century and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.  He currently studies 20th century history, including the history of information and information technology.  Much of his previous research was on African history.

He earned his BA from Hanover College in 1963.  He went on to the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana for his MA, and then earned his Ph.D. from Oxford University in 1970.  He began teaching at the University of Illinois in 1971, and has been there ever since.  He has also spent semesters teaching history at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria.
