Bios
Eliene Augenbraun brings two decades of producing compelling
science materials for the public to this project. Over the past three
years she produced, designed, or edited thousands of web pages as
Executive Producer of stn2.net and the award-winning site ScienceFriday.com.
She created illustrations in all media from comic books to museum
exhibits. She earned a Ph.D. (Biology) from Columbia University, and
a D.O. from the NY College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Ira Flatow is known by millions as host and executive producer
of public radio's award-winning Science Friday®, original host
and writer of the Emmy Award winning TV show Newton's Apple®,
and for his thirty years of radio and television reporting. He is
a veteran science journalist and author who has interviewed thousands
of scientists in his career. Thirty years of broadcasting experience
affords him the ability to deliver science information in a manner
that is compelling and thought-provoking.
Gary Glassman is the Executive Producer and President of
Providence Pictures, Inc. Providence Pictures is currently in production
on one-hour documentaries for both the Discovery Channel and NOVA
on PBS. The Search for Imhotep is Providence Pictures' sixteenth
show for Discovery. The program chronicles the life of Imhotep, from
builder of the first pyramid to his immortalization as a god. Blood
Lords of Copan, for NOVA, uncovers the mythological founder of
the great Maya city of Copan and reveals secrets of the rise and fall

Gino Del Guercio is a writer and documentary filmmaker
in the Boston area. During the past 15 years he has written, produced
and directed documentaries for PBS, Discovery Channel and A&E. His most
recent work prior to Transistorized! was on a three-hour PBS
series on the history of the Internet, entitled Nerds 2.01. His
articles have been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times,
Washington Post, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and other newspapers
and magazines. He is currently working on a new four-part series for
PBS on the history of blood for broadcast in 2002.
Melanie Kron is an associate producer and digital
video editor who joined Sciencentral in June 1998, after earning a bachelor's
degree in journalism from The George Washington University School of
Media and Public Affairs. She also studied pre-medicine and exercise
science. Her past television experience includes internships with WPVI-TV
(ABC affiliate, Philadelphia) and ScienCentral, Inc. in Washington,
DC.
Since graduating from Harvard University in 1995,
Amy Retzinger has been an Associate Producer on a number of
television documentaries and museum projects, becoming an expert on
everything from Air Force One to oil refining. Transistorized!
was a nice departure for her, since it was her first opportunity to
research period costumes and props while learning a little solid state
physics in the process. Amy has recently moved to Los Angeles to work
in dramatic television.
