XILINX AND INSIGHT OPEN DEDICATED PROGRAMMABLE LOCIC TRAINING CENTERS IN ASIA

HONG KONG, May 11, 1998—Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX), and its representative/ distributor in Asia, Insight - A Division of MEMEC (Asia Pacific) Ltd., today announced the opening of dedicated programmable logic training centers, the first of their kind in the Asia-Pacific region.

Classes will begin this month at new centers in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and Shanghai, China. Centers in Seoul, Korea, and Taipei, Taiwan, are scheduled to open shortly thereafter.

"Xilinx and Insight are taking the lead in helping our customers throughout Asia bring their products to market faster and reduce their overall costs," said Stacy Fender, area sales director for Xilinx, Asia Pacific, in Hong Kong. "These centers will provide basic and advanced design techniques for the complete line of Xilinx programmable logic solutions. Our goal is to help customers shorten their development time by mastering our software tools and utilizing our devices in the most efficient manner."

"We are tremendously excited to partner with Xilinx in this program," said David Ashworth, managing director of MEMEC (Asia Pacific) Ltd. "Customer training is an essential part of the total solution, and Xilinx and Insight are unique in Asia in making this investment in training centers and offering this valuable service to our customers."

The centers will be located in dedicated training rooms at Insight offices. They will be fully equipped with PC workstations, the latest software tools and demonstration boards for designing with Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs). Each center can accommodate 10-20 students, with no more than two students per workstation.

Local trainers, experts in the course material and programmable logic design, will teach the classes, which run from one to three days. Initial classes will include schematic-based design entry using the best-selling Xilinx Foundation Series software; advanced FPGA design; a

CPLD tutorial in Xilinx XC9500 devices; and VHDL design techniques that include synthesis, simulation, timing analysis and specification and configuration. Depending on the Xilinx development system they buy, new customers can enroll in the various classes free of charge. Existing customers also can enroll in the classes for a fee.

In addition to receiving training at the centers, any existing Xilinx customers can use the equipment and tools in the center as a supplement to their own facilities to work on designs or projects when are no classes are in session. No other programmable logic company or distributor offers such "design" centers for its customers today.

Opening the new training centers reflects the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region to Xilinx and Insight. In the last two years, sales of Xilinx products in the region have more than doubled and today represent approximately 6 percent of all Xilinx revenues, which for the most recent fiscal year totaled $613.6 million.
