XILINX APPOINTS NEW SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF SOFTWARE

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 9, 1997--Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the appointment of Richard W. Sevcik, a 10-year veteran of Hewlett-Packard Company, as senior vice president of software. Sevcik will be responsible for all aspects of software at Xilinx, including product development, marketing and the company’s relationships with third-party software developers. He will report to Xilinx president and chief executive officer Wim Roelandts and be based at the company’s San Jose headquarters.

Since 1994 Sevcik served as group general manager of HP’s Systems Technology Group and oversaw five divisions involved with product development for HP servers, workstations, operating systems, microprocessors, networking and security. In 1995 he was named vice president.

"We are extremely delighted to have Richard Sevcik on our senior management team," Roelandts said. "As Xilinx continues to grow, and programmable logic evolves into a more complex technology, software will become increasingly important to our future success. His management skills and leadership ability will be a tremendous benefit to the company going forward."

Sevcik began his career at HP in 1987 as general manager of HP’s Business Networks Division, where he oversaw market analysis, product strategy and research and development associated with more than 200 products. From 1989 to 1992 he was general manager of the Commercial Systems Division, the division that develops, manufactures and markets HP’s flagship line of business computers. He then served as group general manager of Computer Systems and Servers and was responsible for four divisions.

Before joining HP, Sevcik spent 18 years in a variety of management positions at Bell Northern Research. He left Bell Northern in 1987 after rising to vice president of private switching systems, a division involved with developing a breadth of office communications products.

Sevcik received his bachelor’s degree in engineering physics from the University of Illinois and his master’s in solid state physics from Northwestern University.
