XILINX FOUNDATION SERIES SOFTWARE DELIVERS SYNOPSYS' FPGAEXPRESS 2.0 TECHNOLOGY

New release of FPGAExpress technology delivers unprecedented performance and quality for 40,000 Xilinx FPGA designers

SAN JOSE, Calif., December 15, 1997—Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX), the leader in programmable logic offerings, announced today the availability of Synopsys FPGAExpress 2.0 technology in Xilinx Foundation Series software. Xilinx will ship this technology to Foundation Series customers in February 1998, meeting the growing demand for language-based FPGA designs.

"Our partnership with Synopsys continues to provide tighter technology integration and improved quality of results within Xilinx solutions," said Rich Sevcik, senior vice president of Xilinx software. "As a result of our joint development and OEM partnership with Synopsys, our Xilinx Foundation Series software is the leader in programmable logic HDL design solutions."

In a co-development environment, the two companies are committed to provide unprecedented quality of results and intuitive design flows. Recent advances in the Foundation synthesis software are a result of successful fusion of Xilinx application knowledge and Synopsys synthesis expertise, bringing many new features and methodologies to Xilinx customers. Users realize productivity improvements in the overall design process. A primary example is the FPGAExpress constraint entry tool, a graphical interface allowing optimal design performance. This tool replaces text-based entry for design constraints. Other joint achievements in Synopsys FPGAExpress v2.0 technology include 30 percent quality of result improvements Xilinx devices through better utilization of architecture features such as fast carry chains, improved global buffer mapping, and automated state-machine optimization.

"Synopsys is committed to advancing programmable logic synthesis technology," said Tim Colleran, director of FPGA Marketing at Synopsys. "We will continue to deliver enhancements for the Xilinx design solution and have a long-term goal to solve the challenge of the million-gate programmable logic design flow. The Xilinx contribution has gone beyond the Xilinx-specific solution and has had an impact on the solutions for all programmable logic devices supported by Synopsys."

Founded in 1984, Xilinx is the world’s largest supplier of programmable logic solutions producing industry–leading device architectures and world class design software. Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., the company pioneered the market for field programmable gate array (FPGA) semiconductor devices that provide high integration and quick time-to-market for electronic equipment manufacturers in the computer, peripheral, telecommunications, networking, industrial control, instrumentation, high-reliability/military, and consumer markets.
