XILINX ACHIEVES QML STATUS ON HI-REL/MILITARY PRODUCTS

New Qualification Opens Programmable Logic as Technology of Choice Among Hi-Rel/Military Designers

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 27, 1997--Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced that it has received Transitional Certification to MIL-I-38535 Qualified Manufacturer Listing (QML) status. The Defense Supply Center Columbus (formerly DESC) in Columbus, Ohio, granted transitional QML status to both the Seiko-Epson, Japan, and Anam, Philippines, facilities, effective November 20, 1996. Seiko Epson is the wafer fabrication partner, and Anam Philippines is the assembly manufacturing partner for Xilinx military products.

Xilinx, the worldwide leader in programmable logic, offers the industry's broadest military-grade FPGA product line and continues to strengthen its commitment to the high-reliability (Hi-Rel)/military markets. The QML program qualifies processes and materials rather than individual products or production lots and will allow Xilinx to bring new military-grade products to market more rapidly.

Given QML products with logic densities up to 25,000 gates available today, and densities beyond 62,000 gates available later this year, hi-rel/military systems designers can reap the benefits of programmable logic over ASICs. "FPGAs have clearly become the technology of choice for this market, since they are standard parts requiring no non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs and providing reprogrammability and upgradeability," said Howard Bogrow, Xilinx's Hi-Rel marketing manager. " As Xilinx migrates to higher densities and finer geometries, we will make our leading-edge products available to designers of hi-rel/military systems much more rapidly with QML."

"Designers of military, aerospace, and other hi-rel systems have long recognized the value of using programmable logic devices, and Xilinx offers the industry's broadest product line. Xilinx FPGAs have been designed into dozens of major military and aerospace systems by Lockheed-Martin, Raytheon, Rockwell, and Hughes," Bogrow added.

Since 1988, Xilinx has supplied hi-rel products in compliance to MIL-PRF-38535, appendix A through the Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) program, offering more than 100 military grade products. All of Xilinx's SMD products will begin shipping as QML under the Transitional Certification, effective immediately.

Achieving QML status is another key milestone that reinforces Xilinx's overall product quality. The QML status complements Xilinx's ISO9000 registration for manufacturing and testing programmable logic devices.

Founded in 1984, Xilinx is the world's largest supplier of programmable logic solutions producing industry-leading device architectures and world class design software. Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., the company pioneered the market for field programmable gate array (FPGA) semiconductor devices that provide high integration and quick time-to-market for electronic equipment manufacturers in the computer, peripheral, telecommunications, networking, industrial control, instrumentation, consumer electronics, and high-reliability/military markets.
