FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

XILINX TO DISCONTINUE THE XC2000 FPGA FAMILY
Rochester Electronics Named as End-of-Life Support Supplier

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 8, 1997--Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced it will discontinue the XC2000 family of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Shipped since 1985, the XC2000 family was the industry's first product of its kind. In addition, the company announced it has for the first time named an end-of-life supplier for all discontinued products--Rochester Electronics.

"The XC2000 family was considered the lowest entry point into the FPGA market," said Sandeep Vij, vice president of marketing at Xilinx. "Our current XC5200 family provides a superior low-density solution for those designers taking advantage of the faster time-to-market and flexibility of FPGA devices. Xilinx aids current XC2000 users in the transition to the more cost-effective XC5200 family through the industry's most customer-friendly product discontinuation program. Customers have two years--a year longer than other suppliers' programs--from notification of obsolescence to the last shipment date to purchase the XC2000 devices."

After December 1998, all XC2000 devices will no longer be available for commercial, industrial, military, and high-reliability markets from Xilinx. (This is the first and only military product that Xilinx has disconintued.) Last-time orders to buy the XC2000 devices will be accepted until December 31, 1998. Last-time shipments will be made until June 30, 1999.

Under its new product discontinuation policy, Xilinx will provide customers with 12 months notice to place their last-time orders for programmable logic devices that will have a "form, fit, and function" replacement, and provide at least an additional 90 days notice for last shipments. For products that do not have replacements, such as the XC2000 family, Xilinx will provide at least 24 months notice for last orders and at least 90 days for last shipments.
