VIEWLOGIC programs report no license for symbol or schematic

Record #146

Product Family: Software

Product Line: ViewLogic

Problem Title:
VIEWLOGIC programs report no license for symbol or schematic

Problem Description:
Changing between different Viewlogic licenses, from a "full" Viewlogic license
to a Xilinx-restricted license, some users may get messages from a Viewlogic
program stating that there is no valid license for the symbol or schematic.
This is normally due to a line within the schematic or symbol file that
contains licensing information.

This can also happen if a schematic or symbol file is manually copied in DOS
or UNIX to a new name rather than using the Viewlogic Save As... command.

Solution 1:

The simple workaround is as follows:
1. Create a new, temporary project for the same target family.
2. Create a blank schematic or symbol with the *same name* as the original
   schematic name and save it.
3. Change the license code in the old problem schematic/symbol file to match
the one in the newly created schematic/symbol file.

The license code is the 11 or 12 digit number on line 2 of the schematic
file. Schematic and symbols that have the same name will use the same
number. Multi-sheet schematics (with .2, .3, etc. extentions) will also use
the same licensing number.

Use this procedure for all your schematics and then use the same numbers
over for the symbols.
