6.0: About WIN32S and XACTstep 6.0 (Design Manager Hangs)

Product Line: FPGA Core

Problem Title:
6.0: About WIN32S and XACTstep 6.0 (Design Manager Hangs)

Problem Description:
XACTstep 6.0 requires WIN32S to run some of its programs, most
notably the Design Manager and the Floorplanner. If the wrong version of
WIN32S is installed, or if something has happened to the installed version,
a number of problems could occur. The most common effect is that the
Design Manager or Floorplanner could hang. Other effects include errors
running the Flow Engine and weird graphical problems.

Solution 1:

The correct version is 1.25.142.0 Install requries this EXACT version, but
for general use of the tools, newer versions (read: 1.30.xxx) are fine.

To check the version of WIN32S that you have installed use the XINFO or
XMEM utilities found on the CD in \XBBS\UTILS.	These are windows tools
that will report system information through windows. Or you can check at
the source in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WIN32S.INI file.

Other tools also require WIN32S, most notably PROsim. Aldec tools require
WIN32S, but they require the 1.25.142.0 version with OLE support. If a
customer installs Aldec after an earlier install of XACT 6.0, they could
run into WIN32S/OLE errors. They should remove WIN32S and install the
OLE support version.

To reinstall WIN32S, you need to first use the RMWIN32S.BAT batch file
found on the CD in \XBBS\UTILS. This cleans all the files, directories,
and SYSTEM.INI lines that WIN32S uses.	The WIN32S install does not
differentiate between versions, so you cannot reinstall without clearing
out the old version first.
