Design Manager 6.0.1: Cannot find input design or work directory

Record #710

Product Family: Software

Product Line: FPGA Core

Problem Title:
Design Manager 6.0.1: Cannot find input design or work directory

Problem Description:
Problem:
While creating a new project in the Design Manager, either of
the following error messages occur after clicking the Translate
button:
Cannot find input design. Please specify an existing design.
or
Cannot find work directory. Please specify an existing directory.

Cause:
When using PC-NFS, any file or directory which contains upper
case letters or which violates the MS DOS "8.3" convention
gets abbreviated with control characters. For example, the
name in UNIX LongNameDir may appear in DOS via PC-NFS as
longn^le. These control characters are not understood by
the Design Manager.

This problem also exists under Windows 95, despite
Windows 95's ability to permit names which exceed eight
characters.

Solution 1:

Solution:
Rename the directories and input file names so that they
do not contain any control characters.	The only valid
characters for the input file, input design directory,
and work directory are: alphanumeric, -, and _. Also,
the period can be used for the input file name,
following the MS DOS "8.3" convention.

In Windows 95, be sure to limit directory and file names
to eight characters or fewer.
