MAKEPROM: INTERNAL PROGRAM ERROR when ran on a xc5200 device.

Record #882

Product Family: Software

Product Line: FPGA Core

Problem Title:
MAKEPROM: INTERNAL PROGRAM ERROR when ran on a xc5200 device.

Problem Description:
When makeprom is invoked for 5k devices, it starts giving beeps with
the following error message

..
...
INTERNAL PROGRAM ERROR (Please contact support personnel):
unpadbs: frame stop: frame 1 nframe 184 bit 0 of 4: pos 1168: expected 0, got 1
unpadbs: frame stop: frame 1 nframe 184 bit 1 of 4: pos 1169: expected 1, got 0
INTERNAL PROGRAM ERROR (Please contact support personnel):

Solution 1:

This use to happen with the Pre-release for the xc5200 but seems to be
fixed in XACT step v6.0/5.2.

The code which unframes a bitstream is not correctly seeing that CRC
was enabled in this .bit file, and therefore thought that the fixed pattern
of frame stop bits was expected. Now that CRC is on by default for 5200
devices this showed up.

The workaround is to disable CRC in makebits.
