Product Line: EPLD Core

Problem Title:
EZTag Error 1017: What it means and how to fix it

Problem Description:
If the EZ-Tag cable reports error 1017, this means that
there is a problem shifting data out of the boundary
scan chain on the board.

Solution 1:

(4)
Parallel port may be in ECP mode.

Goto the PC CMOS and change the parallel port
mode to AT.

Solution 2:

(1)
The user may have a bad physical connection of the
EZ-Tag cable, and/or the devices in the boundary
scan chain.

Check that the EZ-Tag cable is connected firmly to
the PCB. Also check the TDI/TDO pins of the
boundary scan devices for 'good' connections.

The user should check if the user can shift a
string of 1's or 0's, or some user pattern, through
the BP, DR, and/or IR registers.

Solution 3:

(2)
The user may be using EZ-Tag under Windows '95.
EZ-Tag was designed for Windows 3.x and has
not been fully QA'd under Windows '95.

The EZ-Tag software was designed for Windows 3.x.
Under Windows '95, it has been observed that the
eztag.pif file gets corrupted by Windows '95. If
error 1017 happens, this file should be looked at.

Open eztag.pif in Windows '95.	This is done
by selecting the EZ-Tag icon, which will show up
as a DOS shortcut. Select the icon, click the
right mouse button, select properties.	This
will bring up the 'Eztag Properties Window'. Select
the 'Program' tab and make sure the cmd line says:

EZTAG.exe -port auto -batch test -nointeract -log eztag.log

Save the above change and then goto a DOS shell. Run the
folloing in the \xact9000 directory:

attrib +r eztag.pif

Restart Windows '95 and now your ready to use Eztag with
Windows '95

Solution 4:

(3)
Use the XChecker cable instead.

The XChecker cable connections are:

Xchecker Cable 9500 Device pin
TDI----------------------TDI
TMS----------------------TMS
TCK----------------------TCK
RD-----------------------TDO

VCC
GND

which is an on-line document
