Does the XC4000E meet capacitance and inductance specs for PCI?

Record #1242

Product Family: Hardware

Product Line: 4000E

Problem Title:
Does the XC4000E meet capacitance and inductance specs for PCI?

Problem Description:
Please refer to the PCI Compliance Checklist (for XC4000E)
for a complete evaluation of PCI specs. This solution record
addresses the specs not defined by the checklist and addresses
discrepancies with the databook.

-------spec--------------- -----PCI------ -XC4000E data book-
Capacitance on IDsel less than 8pF less than 10pF
Max. Inductance on any pin less than 20nH not defined

Solution 1:

The XC4000E is compliant with the PCI spec Cid_sel < 8pF.
The data book number is a conservative value associated with the
relatively high capacitance on pins in CERAMIC packages.
Any PQFP package will be less than 8pF. Please refer to the PCI
Compliance Checklist for a complete list of PCI compliant
package types.

Although Xilinx does not specify a maximum pin inductance
parameter, simulation modeling (SPICE) has shown that devices
in the XC4000E family exhibit inductance of less than 20nH.
These devices are compliant with the spec. Difficulty in
measuring inductance permits only simulation data availability.
