General EZTag Troubleshooting Hints

Record #1280

Product Family: Software

Product Line: EPLD Core

Problem Title:
General EZTag Troubleshooting Hints

Problem Description:

Solution 1:

EZTag on the PC was designed and tested for Windows 3.x,
not Windows 95 or Windows NT.

Solution 2:

The XACT variable must point to the XACT9000 software
tree first, *and then* the XACT software tree. If you point
to only one of these paths, or the order is reversed, the
EZTag software will not work reliably.

So, if you have the 9500 software installed to
c:\xact9000, and the XACT-Step 6.x software installed
to c:\xact, the xact variable must be set as:

set xact=c:\xact9000;c:\xact

Similarly for the workstation the XACT variable must
point to the 9500 software first and then the FPGA
software next:

setenv XACT /mysoftware/xact9000:/mysoftware/xact

Solution 3:

Your path, on both the pc and the workstation, must
point to the XACT9000 software first, and then the
XACT software next. If the order is wrong, or you
are only pointing to the XACT9000 software, the
EZTag sofware will not work reliably.

Solution 4:

Do not install XACT9000 software and XACT to the same tree.
The EZTAg software was designed to work with the 9500
software in one tree, and the FPGA software in another
tree. So, for example, if you install XACT9000 and
XACT to one directory, like:

\mysoftware\xilinx

this would be incorrect and can cause problems. Instead of
installing to one directory, install the XACT9000 and FPGA
software as:

\mysoftware\xilinx\xact
\mysoftware\xilinx\xact9000

\mysoftware\xilinx\xact contains XACT-Step 6.x
\mysoftware\xilinx\xact9000 contains the 9500 software

If the 9500 software and FPGA software has been
combined into one directory, the EZTag software will not
work reliably.
