Foundation: Importing OrCAD Schematics to Foundation

Record #1601

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Aldec

Problem Title:
Foundation: Importing OrCAD Schematics to Foundation

Problem Description:
Keywords: Foundation, schematic, import, open, OrCAD

Urgency: Standard

General Description:

Some customers may wish to draw their schematics in OrCAD and
later import them into Foundation Schematic Capture.

Solution 1:

The best way to do this is to export either an XNF or EDIF
netlist from OrCAD.

In Foundation Schematic Capture, go to File -> Generate
Schematic from Netlist.

The resulting schematic will most probably be a collection of
components whose input and output nets are connected only because their netnames
are the same.	There will probably be no visual connectivity.

Solution 2:

***This flow is UNSUPPORTED by both Xilinx and Aldec!!
***Neither company can be responsible for the correctness or
***incorrectness of the resulting schematics or any other
***results from this flow!!

Your current version of OrCAD may have the option to save your schematics in the
old, 16 bit, D0S-based OrCAD format. You
must go ahead and do this.

You must also edit your susie.ini which is in the C:\WINDOWS directory. In the
"schematic" section put the following line:

ORCAD=ON

This will enable the option in Foundation for you to bring the OrCAD schematics
over directly.

Restart Foundation and find the OrCAD menu item.

Again, this flow is NOT supported by either Xilinx or Aldec.
