Record #1725

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Synopsys

Problem Title:
xnf2vss: What is the purpose of the .vxnf file produced by xnf2vss?

Problem Description:
keywords: vxnf,xnf2vss,simulation,timing

urgency:standard

general description:

xnf2vss, which is part of the XSI software package, produces a
structural vhdl file, a .sdf file, and a .vxnf file. What is the
purpose of creating the .vxnf file?

Solution 1:

A .vxnf file is produced by xnf2vss. A .vxnf file is
a gate-level back-annottated timing xnf version of
a user's timing back-anoottated .lca file. The .vxnf
file is essentially a gate-level pre-route with timing
xnf file.

The .vxnf file can be read into the Synopsys tool for
static timing analysis. However, static timing analysis
should always be done with XDelay. The .vxnf file cannot
be used for functional or timing simulation in Synopsys.
