Can a 4000E or 5200 lead a 4000EX in a daisy chain?

Record #1771

Problem Title:
Can a 4000E or 5200 lead a 4000EX in a daisy chain?

Problem Description:
Is it recommended to have a 4000E or 5200 family device function
as the master in a daisy chain containing a 4000EX slave?

Solution 1:

There is no problem with doing this. The 4kEX, 4kE, and 5200
families configure themselves in the same manner (except 4kE
does not do Express mode). Using any one of these families
as a master in a mixed daisy chain is OK.

There are issues regarding using 3k family devices as masters
in a daisy chain that contains 4kE(X) and 5200 devices. Refer
to page 4-55 of the 1996 Data Book for a discussion on this
subject.
