HW-112 ALERT: 17256D and 17256 verification problems

Record #1828

Problem Title:
HW-112 ALERT: 17256D and 17256 verification problems

Problem Description:
There is a recently discovered (1/97) problem where the Xilinx HW-112
programmers are unable to properly verify programmed 17256D and 17256
parts and programming files.

SYMPTOMS:

1. The HW-112 is unable to distinguish different XC17256D and 17256 files
from each other.

2. After programming a 17256D part, the HW-112 is unable to verify that the
part has been properly programmed, even when the part *is* properly
programmed.

3. The HW-112 fails to recognize at least three addresses on the PROMs (there
may be more). The unrecognized addresses start at address 2000 (one
address past the last address of the 1765D).

Solution 1:

Xilinx is currently investigating a fix for this problem. In
the meantime, customers should use a 3rd party programmer or
HW-130 to program their parts.
