CADENCE/GXILINX: Netnames can be created that contain a "#" sign (xnfprep 3517)

Record #2106

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Cadence

Problem Title:
CADENCE/GXILINX: Netnames can be created that contain a "#" sign
(xnfprep 3517)

Problem Description:
Keywords: Gxilinx, 9402, pre-unified, #, xnfprep, pound sign

Urgency: standard

General Description:

Xnfprep will error with 3517 on the design. It will complain
about netnames such as:

NEPTOP_4IBUF144P_#1

These are nets that were not explicitly named in the Concept
schematic. GXilinx will automatically generate net names for
these unnamed nets, and it will sometimes use a "#" sign in
in these generated names, which is not a valid character in
the XNF format).

Solution 1:

Use the -physical option in GXilinx. This will automatically
regenerate all netnames that you did not name in schematic to
valid XNF names.

The disadvantage of this is that it will regenerate new names
every time you rerun GXilinx, so you cannot use one version as
a guide file to another in PPR.

Solution 2:

Name the offending nets (ones using a "#" sign) in the schematic. GXilinx will u
se your name instead.

Solution 3:

Inside the .xnf files, do a global search and replace of "#" with another valid
symbol, such as "_".
