M1 Licensing: Using a workstation as a server for PC and workstation applications

Record #2130

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Other

Problem Title:
M1 Licensing: Using a workstation as a server for PC and workstation
applications

Problem Description:
keywords: license, PC, workstation, server

urgency: standard

general description:
A workstation can be used as a server for both PC and
workstation applications in the M1 software

Solution 1:

(1) Call customer service for a floating workstation license,
which is authorized for your workstation hostname and
hostid, and has authorization for PC and workstation
executables.

(2) Obtain the lmgrd, lmutil, and xilinxd executables
for the specifc workstation platform in use.

(3) Start the license manager on the workstation.
(Set the path and LM_LICENSE_FILE file on your
workstation as instructed in the Release Notes.)
Now the client PC's and workstations can use the workstation as
a server by setting the path, XILINX, and LM_LICENSE_FILE
variables.

(4) On the client PC's, set the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable
to port@host, where port is a free port on the workstation
and host is the hostname of the workstation. For example,
under Windows '95 the LM_LICENSE_FILE can be set in the
autoexec.bat file as:

2100@big

where 2100 is a free port on the workstation 'big'. Simlarly,
under Windows NT, the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE
is set by going to:
start->settings->control panel->system->environment
and specifying the 'value' of LM_LICENSE_FILE, which
is defined in 'variable' as: 2100@big

(5) On the client workstations, set the LM_LICENSE_FILE
to the full-path location of the license.dat file.
