PROMS: Can you use a 1736A as a master to program a 1736D part?

Record #2658

Product Family: Hardware

Product Line: 1700

Problem Title:
PROMS: Can you use a 1736A as a master to program a 1736D part?

Problem Description:
Keywords: 1736A, 1736D, program, master

Urgency: standard

General Description:
PROMS: Can you use a 1736A to program a 1736D part?

Solution 1:

The 1736A should never be used directly as a master PROM to
program a 1736D part. The 1736A does not have programmable
reset polarity (it is fixed at active High reset), and you
may damage the 1736D if you program it directly from the A
part. The algorithms for the A and D parts are completely
different.

What you can do is use the 1736A contents indirectly by
reading the data in from the 1736A, and creating a
rawbits file from that data (.RBT). Use this file as the
master programming file to program the 1736D.

To configure the 1736D to be compatible with the 1736A
behavior, the reset polarity should be set to HIGH.
