Record #2901

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Aldec

Problem Title:
Foundation F1.3 Schematic will not let me add anymore components.
symbolnot added, not enough memory to complete this operation

Problem Description:
Keywords: Foundation, Schematic, symbol, component, disappear, add

Urgency: Standard

General Description: The Foundation Schematic editor will not let me add
anymore components or symobls to my schematic. I am allowed to select a
component from the library and move it around the schematic, but as soon
as I try and drop it down on the schematic is disappears. In the
Project Manager window I get the message:

Symbol not added
Not enough memory to complete this operation

Solution 1:

Foundation Schematic has a limitation on the number of symbols or components
that can be added to a particular sheet. A new sheet can be created that is
on the same level, or a hiearchial symbol can be created out of a section of
that particular sheet if applicable. On the new sheet the components
can be placed on the sheet, and the signals that are common between the
two sheets will be connected as long as they are labeled exactly the same.

To create another sheet use File->New sheet. After saving, the new sheet will ap
pear in the Project listing.

To create a Hierarchial symbol, after creating the new shematic sheet use
Hieararchy->Create macro from current sheet. Give the name for the symbol in
the appropriate place and click ok. The new symbol will now be listed in
the SC symbols library. Make sure that the signals that goto pins use the
green I/O Terminals.

See (Xilinx Solution 2890) for more details on how to create the new sheet and/o
r how to create hierarchial symbols.
