What is an IBIS model, (as opposed to a SPICE model)?

Record #2932

Problem Title:
What is an IBIS model, (as opposed to a SPICE model)?

Problem Description:
Keywords: spice, ibis

Urgency: standard

General Description:
What is an IBIS model?

Solution 1:

IBIS (Input Output Buffer Information Specification) is a
method of providing the Input/Output device characteristics
through V/I data without disclosing any circuit/process
information. It can be thought of as a behavioral modeling
specification suitable for transmission line simulation of digital systems, and
is applicable to most digital components.

IBIS models are provided instead of Spice models since Spice models have proprie
tary information.
