Problem Title:
FUNCNET/FUNCNETX, TIMENET/TIMENETX: What is the difference?

Problem Description:
Keywords: funcnet, funcnetx, timenet, timenetx, cadence,
verilog, rapidsim, concept, xnf2verilog

Urgency: standard

General description:
FUNCNET/FUNCNETX, TIMENET/TIMENETX: What is the difference?

Solution 1:

FUNCNET, FUNCNETX, TIMENET, and TIMENETX support the
XACT 5.X XNF flow only.

The FUNCNET and TIMENET are Cadence scripts that support both
Verilog and Rapidsim simulation. FUNCNET and TIMENET can
also generate a Concept symbol body, part_cn file and pic_opt
view (97A release) for your design and install them in your
project directory. These additional files allow you to
integrate your FPGA simulation netlist into a Concept board
level simulation.

FUNCNETX and TIMENETX (the scripts whose names end in "X"), on
the other hand are scripts shipped by Xilinx. They support
only part of the functionality of the Cadence FUNCNET and
TIMENET scripts, specifically *Verilog-XL simulation* only.
Both scripts support Verilog-XL simulation of designs coming
from *any* third party design entry tool. They do not support
any non-Verilog-XL, Cadence-specific capabilities such as
Rapidsim simulation and Concept symbol generation.
