M1 Performance Pack: Usage of Lab Install

Record #3169

Problem Title:
M1 Performance Pack: Usage of Lab Install

Problem Description:
Keywords: Lab Install, M1, Performance Pack

Urgency: Standard

General Description: This solution record describes general
usage of the Lab Install found on the M1.3 Performance Pack CD.
Topics covered include: executables included, licensing of
applications and where to install.

Solution 1:

Where to install:

The ntlab/setup.exe should only be run on a PC which DOES NOT
already have Xilinx M1 installed. The reason for this is
because some of the data files exist but are empty, thus not
allowing the full version of Xilinx to run properly.

The Lab Install only installs the Hardware Debugger, Prom File
Formatter and JTAG Programmer and the necessary files for those
to run properly. There is no need to do the Lab Install on a
PC that already has the Xilinx tools installed, there are no
new features or patches that cannot be found in the patch
directory.

If you have done the Lab Install over original Xilinx, then
you will need to re-install Xilinx. Also, you will need to
re-install the speed files and patches from the Performance
Pack. For additional info see solution 3062
(http://www.xilinx.com/techdocs/3062.htm)

Solution 2:

Executables and Licensing

The executables included in the Lab Install are not licensed
by Xilinx. Thus, no licensing setup is required for the
PC running the Lab Tools.

The lab tools included in this installation are: Hardware
Debugger (hwdebugr), JTAG Programmer (jtagpgmr) and Prom File
Formatter (promfmtr). As well as the supporting data files.
