A1.4: How to Target the Spartan Device With Most Schematic and
SynthesisTools When a Library is Not Yet Availible
Problem Description:
Keywords: Spartan, target, A1.4, 1.4
Urgency: Standard
General Description:
This solution record describes how to target a Spartan family device using
A1.4 when a library is not yet availible for the particular schematic or
synthesis tool you are using.
The A1.4 software needs to first be installed to target a Spartan device.
Solution 1:
The Spartan libraries for the Xilinx supported interfaces will be released in
the Alliance 1.5 release due out mid-year 1998. Until then, a Spartan device
can still be targeted using the A1.4 software if you use the xc4000e library for
creating the design and re-targeting to a Spartan device from within the Design
Manager or command-line with the -p switch.
When using the xc4000e library and targeting a Spartan device, the following
components can NOT be used in the design since they do not exist in the
Spartan architecture:
Asynchronous RAMs: RAM16X1, RAM32X1
Note: Also be sure NOT to create any asyncronous RAM modules
using LogiBLOX
Wide Edge Decoders: DECODE4, DECODE8, DECODE16, DECODE32, DECODE64
WANDs: WOR2AND, WAND1, WAND4, WAND8, WAND16
Mode Pins: MD0, MD1, MD2
All other components should be OK to use with the Spartan architecture and
creation of the design should be otherwise the same as creating a xc4000e
design.
