Hardware Debugger: Configuring FPGA with Parallel Cable fails, Serial Cable works.

Record #3701

Product Family: Software

Product Line: M1 Graphical/General

Problem Title:
Hardware Debugger: Configuring FPGA with Parallel Cable fails, Serial
Cable works.

Problem Description:
Keywords: jtag, parallel, debugger

Urgency: Standard

General Description:

Configuring an FPGA from the Hardware Debugger with the Parallel Cable III (JTAG
cable) fails either with the message: "Done pin doesn't go High" or by reportin
g that "The Device is configured" but the FPGA doesn't function.

This is because the PROG pin on Parallel cable III a.k.a. JTAG cable is held low
after downloading thus forcing the device back to configuration mode.

Solution 1:

A workaround was to leave the Flying Lead Labelled PROG unconnected from the tar
get device.

This problem has now been fixed in the software and a
patch is available at:
ftp://ftp.xilinx.com/pub/swhelp/M1.4_alliance/gui_nt1.zip
