The Evolution FPGA Design Tool Suite from Morphologic provides FPGA and DSP designers with the fastest path between design concept and working hardware. 

The Evolution FPGA Design Tool Suite was developed upon the concept that the most efficient path to a complete FPGA design is one that eliminates the multiple, lengthy design iterations common to current HDL/synthesis design processes; in which designers typically go through the synthesis and placement & routing cycles many times in order to meet size and timing constraints. 

In addition to supporting existing design processes, Evolution supports design reuse in the form of a library of parameterizable macros and a powerful multi-chip floorplanner. This enables the creation of "smart" placements, which allow the designer to monitor the design in terms of resources and performance at every stage of the process. 

Evolution’s combination of design entry, high-speed simulation, requirements tracking, and floorplanning, yields consistent, deterministic results that set the stage for a complete route on the first pass. 
 

Product Highlights

Evolution provides dramatic reductions in time and effort primarily through its powerful Multi-Chip Floorplanner (MorphMCFP). The MorphMCFP is the only currently available FPGA design tool which can: 
  • Floorplan multiple FPGA devices simultaneously,
  • Floorplan devices from different vendors and technologies simultaneously,
  • Floorplan all Xilinx XC4000E/EX/L/XL and XC6200 devices,
  • Use physical interconnections from existing FPGA-based circuit cards to support partitioning across multiple devices.
Benefits of fully floorplanning a design include: reducing routing times by an order of magnitude, improving performance by 20 to 50%, and achieving greater design densities. Floorplanning enables designers to use devices which are smaller, less expensive and consume less power. Using the MorphMCFP can make any FPGA design process shorter and more deterministic. 

The MorphMCFP is currently integrated into Morphologic’s Evolution tool suite, along with the MorphDraw, MorphSim and Architecture Advisor design tools, providing design entry, cycle-based simulation, and requirements tracking along with the multi-device partitioning and floorplanning. 

Xilinx-Specific Highlights

Some key features of the Evolution include: 
  • Allows the designer to import mapped NCD design files from any design process front end,
  • Allows the designer to read back PAR-generated NCD files for hand modification,
  • Allows the designer to re-map functionality at the sub-CLB level,
  • Allows the designer to create a "performance conscious" placement through the use of a sophisticated routing estimator,
  • Allows the designer to read in TRCE-generated TWR files and display post-route static timing information graphically on the placement,
  • Allows the designer to build a reusable library of design element placement shapes, 
  • Allows the user to floor plan a single, mapped NCD file across multiple chips.
Evolution currently supports all devices in the Xilinx XC4000E/EX/L/XL and XC6200 series.
