Protel Advanced PLD brings device and supplier independent PLD/FPGA
design into the EDA/Client environment.
Define your programmable logic design with CUPL, the device-independent
Hardware Description Language. CUPL supports expression substitution for
equations and shorthand notation for lists, address ranges, and bit fields.
State machine syntax provides a means of implementing any synchronous application
using either Mealy or Moore state machine models. Truth table syntax provides
a way to clearly express certain logic descriptions.
Advanced PLDs Compiler contains the fastest and most powerful minimizer
offered for programmable logic equation reduction, with four levels of
minimization. The Compiler simplifies Boolean expressions by the distributive
property and DeMorgan's Theorem.
Perform functional simulation with Advanced PLD. The simulation syntax
supports high-level language concepts such as; conditional looping, conditional
simulation, arithmetic and random vector generation, and multiple order
statements in your simulation input file.
Advanced PLD supports both Xilinx EPLD and FPGA devices. EPLDs are automatically
fitted with the XEPLD fitter, producing a download program file. FPGAs
are optimized for place and route by the ImproveX module.

Design Flow
Designs are written in the CUPL Hardware Description Language utilizing
boolean equations, expression substitution, state machine and truth table
syntax. EPLD designs are compiled and functionally simulated, then fitted
into the device. The XEPLD fitter produces a download file. FPGA designs
are compiled and optimized by ImproveX, producing an XNF file ready for
XACT.
Protel Advanced Schematic is the front end
to an integrated development system, which in its third generation runs
as a server in the EDA/Client environment. Advanced Schematic can generate
single sheet, multiple sheet, and fully hierarchical designs of virtually
any size, limited only by the available memory and storage capacity of
your system. Advanced Schematic standard component libraries include over
20,000 parts, with ANSI, DeMorgan, and IEEE display options.
Advanced Schematic has been developed with the designer in mind. Guided
wiring and auto-junction make wiring a breeze. Powerful global editing
allows changes to be applied across the entire project, backed up by multi-level
Undo/Redo.
With Advanced Schematic the Xilinx design is integrated directly into
the project schematic. Descend from your PCB-ready schematic directly into
the Xilinx schematic.
Over thirty netlist formats are generated by Advanced Schematic including
industry standard EDIF 2.0 and EDIF 2.0 hierarchical formats, special formats
for Spice and other simulation environments, as well as Xilinx XNF hierarchical
netlists.
The open architecture of the EDA/Client environment includes a syntax
aware test editor, two macro scripting languages and completely customizable
user resources.
