XILINX REINFORCES POSITION IN HOME NETWORKING MARKET
WITH MEMBERSHIP IN HAVI, INC.
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 15, 2001 – Xilinx Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), announced
its membership in HAVi Inc, the non-profit association advancing the Home
Audio Video interoperability specification for digital consumer electronics
home-entertainment networking. HAVi
is a multi-brand standard intended primarily for the networking of digital
AV home entertainment products. Devices connected in a HAVi network
can interoperate, meaning that they can share each other's resources and
functionality across the network.
‘The members of HAVI are excited to see the level of commitment to home
networking that Xilinx has demonstrated with the Home Networking Forum
and eSP,” said HAVi Chairman Eddy Odijk of Philips Consumer. “Xilinx’
programmable solutions bring an entirely new level of flexibility to home
entertainment networking.”
“HAVi is an important standard that addresses the challenges of interoperability
of networked Audio Video equipment using 1394
(firewire) technology” said Robert Bielby, director of strategic applications
for Xilinx, Inc. “Our membership in this association, in addition to the
eSP web portal which provides customers with access to information on new
standards like HAVi, underscores our commitment to accelerating product
development for the new digital convergence markets.”
About Xilinx eSP
Xilinx eSP is the industry's first web portal dedicated to accelerating
the design and development of consumer products based upon emerging standards
and protocols. The eSP website (http://www.xilinx.com/esp/)
is a comprehensive resource, delivering a powerful array of solutions and
information in a single location. Solutions found on the site range from
reference designs to intellectual property and result from collaboration
with a wide range of industry leaders. The site is also a rich source
of information including technology tutorials, market overviews, system
block diagrams, white papers, standards updates, industry links, extensive
glossaries and a directory of consultants. Additionally, there is
an on-line forum that provides designers with direct access to industry
experts. Initially, the site will focus on home networking and will continue
to expand in the first quarter of 2001 with a second segment dedicated
to Bluetooth applications.
