(NASDAQ: XLNX) and its distributor in Asia Pacific, Insight, announced the opening of the fourth dedicated training center in Singapore to provide specialized training programs covering the latest programmable logic solutions from Xilinx. The opening signals the full regional training coverage and a successful partnership between the two companies in providing superior technical support. Existing training centers have been offering courses in Seoul; South Korea, Shanghai; China, and Taipei and Hsinchu, Taiwan since May 1998. This is just what we have achieved at the other three locations." Courses offered by Xilinx-certified trainers cover both software and hardware. Current offerings include schematic design entry using Xilinx Foundation Series software; advanced FPGA design; VHDL design techniques that include synthesis, simulation, timing analysis and specification and configuration; and a tutorial in Xilinx XC9500 CPLD devices. Course content can also be customized on a company or class basis in order to accommodate customer needs. All customers who purchase a Xilinx development system will receive the one-day schematic entry or CPLD tutorial class free of charge as part of their software purchase. The newest center, which is based in a dedicated training and design room at Insight's Singapore office, is equipped with workstations, demonstration boards and X-checker cables, workbenches, oscilloscopes and debugging tools as well as the latest software tools for designing with FPGAs and CPLDs. To maintain a high trainer to trainee ratio, the center targets a small class size of around 8-10 users per class. In addition to offering training, the center allows Xilinx customers to use the equipment and tools as a supplement to their own facilities to work on projects when there are no classes in session.
