XILINX ANNOUNCES COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING
FOR VERILOG

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 2, 1998–Xilinx Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) introduced today a computer-based training course, called the Verilog CBT course, as a new educational method for the Verilog hardware description language (HDL). This new computer-based training (CBT) class provides an interactive learning environment that will teach all the essentials for writing, synthesizing, and simulating Verilog HDL for Xilinx devices.

"Verilog HDL is realizing a strong following among many of our users," said Rich Sevcik, Xilinx senior vice president software, cores, and support solutions." We recognized very early on that tens of thousands of our users would require a comprehensive, interactive learning tool, packaged in a very user-friendly environment that they they could use at the desktop at their own pace and convenience."

The Verilog CBT course is based on a three-day Verilog class offered by Xilinx in the traditional live classroom format. The class has been converted into a computerized self study program based on a universal HDL methodology for any designer doing synthesis or simulation.

In addition to learning Verilog coding techniques and gaining hands-on experience building Verilog designs, users will also learn how to target Xilinx devices using Verilog. This multimedia training application features a primary viewing window that presents code examples, diagrams, graphical tools, and tips. A secondary window contains the instructor's narrative, which is also provided as an audio track. The Verilog CBT course provides a variety of online, multimedia learning tools to increase productivity with the Verilog language, including design examples, student exercises, self tests, a Verilog glossary, coding guidelines, practical tips, formatting conventions, and a complete index.

The Verilog CBT course is divided into ten modules covering topics such as: language concepts, modules and ports, gate-level modeling, operators and expressions, data flow modeling, behavioral modeling, advanced process statements, testbenches, and how to target Xilinx devices.

System requirements for installing and running the course include Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98, Pentium processor (166 MHz or faster), sound card, video card with support for 16-bit or greater color, a minimum monitor resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and a 4x CD-ROM drive or greater.

"Xilinx has priced Verilog CBT very aggressively to ensure its affordability to any designer wanting to learn Verilog," continued Sevcik. "For a fraction of the cost of traveling and dedicating time to traditional in-class course study, designers can become proficient in Verilog in a matter of hours."

The Verilog CBT course is available today for $295. Customers can obtain a copy of this course by contacting their Xilinx distributor or calling the Xilinx Customer Education number at 1-877-XLXCLASS.
