XILINX EXPANDS SILICON XPRESSO INITIATIVE WITH NEW WEB-BASED E-LEARNING CUSTOMER TRAINING SYSTEM

SAN JOSE, Calif.—July 6, 1999—Expanding its Silicon Xpresso initiative into the area of worldwide customer education, Xilinx (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the E-Learning system for providing in-depth technical training sessions over the Web on how to use Xilinx programmable logic products.

With the Xilinx E-Learning system, customers can participate in specific one-hour, instructor-led courses broadcast over the Web in conjunction with a two-way conference call. In these live courses, customers can ask the instructor questions, get answers and collaborate with other students, all on-line. Alternatively, customers can access recorded Xilinx E-Learning sessions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, anywhere in the world, and view them while listening to recorded audio that has been synchronized to each slide.

"Xilinx E-Learning sessions allow Xilinx customers to schedule technical training much more conveniently than ever before," said Dick Laforge, Director of Customer Education at Xilinx. "The savings in time, travel and lodging alone make the E-Learning system a compelling alternative to traditional methods of customer education."

Because E-Learning sessions are modular, customers pay only for the training they need. This contrasts with longer, conventional training sessions that are often held away from a customer's site, last a day or more and cover multiple topics. An additional advantage of the one-hour format is the ability of Xilinx to quickly develop new courses to keep pace with rapid developments in the programmable logic industry.

More than two dozen E-Learning sessions are now available. Those include modules on Xilinx technical help resources, coding tips for FPGAs, synthesis and simulation, timing constraints, FPGA design and configuration, timing analyzer, Xilinx tool flow, reading reports, and using the floor planner. In addition, there are several courses on VHDL methodology. Up-to-date information on all courses and schedules is available on the Web at http://support.xilinx.com under the education heading.

To register for E-Learning sessions, customers in the U.S. and Canada call toll free (877) 959-2527 and receive a password and URL for the class. International customers call (408) 879-5180 to register. At class time, customers call a toll free telephone number and log on to the URL they receive at registration.

Live sessions on the Xilinx E-Learning system cost $100. Recorded modules cost $70. Payment is made in advance with a credit card.
