GV & ASSOCIATES RELEASES EMULATION BOARD FOR THE
XILINX XtremeDSP SOLUTION
New board interfaces to MATLAB, Simulink and Xilinx Integrated Logic
Analyzer tools
SAN JOSE, Calif., December 6, 2000 —Xilinx,
Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) announced today the immediate availability of a
digital signal processing (DSP) emulation board from AllianceCORE partner,
GV
& Associates for the implementation of high performance DSP algorithms
in FPGAs. The new GVA-290 DSP Hardware Accelerator board provides an interface
to The MathWork’s MATLABÒ and SimulinkÒ
tools and supports four A/D and D/A data channels. The board is part of
the Xilinx XtremeDSP™ Initiative providing a complete solution for DSP
engineers from system level design to hardware implementation in FPGAs.
"Xilinx is at the forefront of enabling DSP designers to develop their
high performance systems in FPGAs and get them into the market faster,"
said Gerard Vanderloop, president of GV & Associates. "Tools
such as the Xilinx System Generator™, the alliance with The MathWorks for
MATLAB and Simulink integration, a comprehensive suite of DSP cores, and
high performance DSP devices provide a solution that is unmatched in the
DSP and PLD industries."
Versatile DSP System
The GVA-290 DSP Hardware Accelerator board helps designers to quickly
take their systems from concept to reality, giving them a tremendous time-to-market
advantage. The GVA-290 consists of two Xilinx Virtex™-E FPGAs, a Spartan™-II
FPGA, a CPLD, ZBT SRAM and FLASH memories as well as A/D, D/A converters.
Two 100-bit and 44-bit local buses provide on-board inter-chip communication
while a 48-bit bus and 32-bit LVDS buses provide external interface. The
board can be connected to the Xilinx ChipScope™ integrated logic analyzer
for debugging the design dynamically. Future enhanced versions of the board
will include Xilinx Virtex-II FPGAs.
The board interfaces to MATLAB and Simulink tools through a USB interface
and also supports parallel and JTAG interfaces. During the design phase,
a designer can implement one module in software using MATLAB/Simulink and
send the data output to the hardware module implemented in the FPGA using
a tool such as System Generator. The data output of the hardware module
can again be sent to MATLAB/Simulink to connect to a third module implemented
in software.
About XtremeDSP Initiative
The Xilinx XtremeDSP initiative, announced November 21, 2000, addresses
the increasing need for high-performance DSP solutions driven by the broadband
revolution. The initiative marks a major commitment by the company to further
establish its leadership position as a
high-performance DSP solutions provider. Solutions from the initiative
will support over 600 billion multiply accumulates cycles (MACs) per second,
more than 100 times faster than the industry's leading embedded DSP processor
core. The initiative also includes new DSP features in its next generation
Virtex?-II architecture, pre-engineered DSP algorithms, and enabling system-level
DSP development tools.
