XILINX ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY’S FIRST INTERNET RESOURCE
FOR COMPREHENSIVE MEMORY SOLUTIONS

Website offers free reference designs for Virtex, Virtex-E, and Spartan-II FPGAs

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 6, 2000—Xilinx Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the industry’s first website committed to providing comprehensive memory solutions for system designers.  The site, entitled Memory Corner (http://www.xilinx.com/products/xaw/memory), represents the collaborative efforts of Xilinx and memory manufacturers Cypress Semiconductor Corp., IDT, Micron Technology Inc., Samsung Semiconductor, and Toshiba Electronic Components Inc. The website is an open forum for existing and emerging manufacturers to contribute and post new memory reference solutions.

“The introduction of Memory Corner underscores Xilinx commitment to delivering solutions that accelerate time-to-market," said Wim Roelandts, President and CEO of Xilinx. “Over the years, Xilinx has delivered a number of product 'firsts' for the programmable logic industry, and this website further illustrates Xilinx leadership position in the market."

The website provides free, pre-defined memory control reference designs for a wide range of memory technologies. It also provides a comprehensive overview of the various memory technologies in the form of application notes and tutorials to help simplify the memory selection process.

“Memory Corner provides customers immediate access to information about FPGA and memory solutions.  IDT is committed to working with Xilinx to provide customers a one-stop shop for memory technology,” said Jeff Vesey, strategic marketing manager for IDT’s Communications Memories. “With Xilinx Select I/O technology, it is possible for Xilinx? FPGAs to support a wide range of our current and future memory roadmaps.”

Reference design solutions for Quad Data Rate (QDRTM) SRAM, Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM), Zero Bus Turnaround (ZBT®) SRAM, and Double Data Rate (DDR) DRAM, memories which are described in both VHDL and Verilog hardware description languages and are targeted for the Virtex, VirtexE, and Spartan-II FPGA families are currently available and can be downloaded for free.

Spartan-II FPGAs
The Spartan-II family delivers 100,000 system gates for under $10 at speeds of 200 MHz and beyond, offering unmatched design flexibility. These low-power 2.5-volt devices feature I/Os that operate at 3.3 volts with full 5-volt tolerance. Spartan-II devices also feature multiple delay locked loops (DLLs), on-chip RAM (block and distributed), and the versatility of SelectI/O technology supporting over 16 high-performance interface standards. All these features in a device that offers unlimited programmability and can be upgraded in the field.

Virtex-E FPGAs
The Virtex-E family has made significant improvements in the areas of capacity and performance over the original Virtex series: 3.2 million gates; 832 Kbits of True Dual-Port? internal block RAM; eight digital delay locked loops (DLLs) capable of over 300 MHz clock frequency for system timing; and 20 I/O standards including LVDS, BusLVDS and LVPECL.  The Virtex-E FPGAs are the first programmable logic devices delivered on 0.18-micron process technology, which Xilinx jointly produced with Taiwan's UMC Group. The improved process directly contributes to the 30 percent performance gain for all internal functionality. Also, the Virtex-E family represents the industry's first programmable logic architecture with 210 million transistors on a single device.
