XILINX ANNOUNCES SINGLE-CONFIGURATION-PROM SOLUTION FOR INDUSTRY’S LARGEST FPGA, THE VIRTEX XCV3200E New 16-Mbit device is 10 times larger than competitive offering SAN JOSE, CA, July 31, 2000—Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ;XLNX) today announced the industry’s first 16-Mbit and 8-Mbit FPGA configuration PROMs. The larger PROMS significantly reduce the total number of components required for high density FPGA designs. Configuration memories are used for the logic initialization of SRAM-based FPGAs. With the new Xilinx 16-Mbit XC17V16™ and 8-Mbit XC17V08™ PROMs, Xilinx extends its lead in FPGA configuration memory. Compared to its closest competitor, whose FPGAs can require up to eight of its largest configuration PROMs, Xilinx now offers a one-chip configuration solution for all its FPGAs, including the XilinxÒ Virtex™ -E family. Today Xilinx also announced the first shipments of the Virtex XCV3200E™, the world's largest programmable logic device now available. These large configuration memories can also be used to program multiple, smaller Xilinx FPGAs. “The six-fold increase in density of our configuration PROMs greatly enhances the ease of implementation for designers using the Virtex XCV3200E FPGA. These new pre-engineered products allow designers to easily tap the FPGA’s performance and density advantage while minimizing board space relative to solutions offered by competitors. To get the equivalent functionality of one Xilinx XCV3200E FPGA and one Xilinx XC17V16 PROM would require at least 14 chips from our closest competitor,” said Mustafa Veziroglu, general manager of the Xilinx Configuration Solutions Division. Number of Virtex-E FPGAs configurable with one 16-Mbit PROM
The new 16-Mbit XC17V16 and 8-Mbit XC17V08 PROMs are based on the proven one-time programmable Xilinx XC17XX architecture, which provides a high-performance, low-cost, reliable, and easy-to-use configuration solution for users of Virtex FPGAs. These new devices can be programmed using either the Xilinx HW-130 desktop programmer or a selection of third-party chip programming equipment. Pricing and Availability
