Attention: Valued Customer,
Subject: Process Change Notification (PCN98003)
- The Xilinx XC9500 Product Family will be manufactured in the 0.5µM
Flash Process at UMC.
Products Affected: Xilinx previously announced qualification
of UMC as a foundry partner in May 1996, qualifying the XC4000E and XC4000EX
families of products at that time, with later extensions planned to other
product families. This is one such extension. The XC9500 product family
will now be produced in the 0.5µM Flash process at UMC.
Change Description: This offering from UMC will be fabricated
in the 0.5µM triple metal Flash CMOS Process. Currently XC9500 product
is produced in the 0.6µM double metal Flash Process at Seiko. There
will be no affect on the form, fit or function of the device as a result
of this change.
Reason for Change: This change to the process technology for
the XC9500 is being made to ensure that Xilinx maintains the ability to
meet our customer's requirements for speed and product availability, to
establish additional fabrication capacity for this product line, and to
improve our future product roadmaps.
Key Dates: Qualification of UMC for the Flash Process was completed
utilizing the XC95144 (data
attached). An initial quality audit
of this wafer fab was successfully conducted along ISO9000 requirements
in November 1995 with follow-up audits annually since that time. Engineering
samples of devices fabricated at UMC and final qualification data will
be made available according to the schedule below.

Product specifically manufactured with the older 0.6µM
Flash Process at Seiko can be ordered up to 12 months after the availability
of the above samples, with delivery scheduled up to 15 months after sample
availability. Please contact your Xilinx sales representative for details.
Traceability: Product manufactured at UMC carries
the designation "M" as the second letter in the product marking code (part
of the topside date code marking).
