(NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced the availability of Virtex®-II device support in its ModelSim edition design environment, based on Model Technology's leading simulation software. This new device support in ModelSim Xilinx Edition (ModelSim XE) software is fully integrated into the Xilinx® Foundation Integrated Synthesis Environment (ISE^TM) and Alliance Series^TM software, making it easy to target Virtex II devices. In addition, ModelSim XE also allows designers to simulate the newest additions in Xilinx LogicCore^TM products.

Faster performance compared to other competitive editions

Xilinx continues to provide optimized simulation libraries for faster performance compared to the structural and timing features in the competitive edition. The Xilinx simulation netlists and libraries simulate twice as fast, on average, than equivalent competitive simulation netlists and libraries.

ModelSim XE edition supports behavioral, RTL, and gate-level simulation of Xilinx cell libraries for both Verilog and VHDL environments. ModelSim XE is a complete PC HDL simulation environment that enables you to verify the HDL source code and functional and timing models of your designs. All ModelSim tools, including both Xilinx versions, feature a complete HDL simulation and debugging environment providing 100 percent VHDL and Verilog language coverage, a source code viewer/editor, waveform viewer, design structure browser, list window and a host of other features designed to enhance productivity.

Effective now, Xilinx provides a special bundle of Foundation ISE and ModelSim XE software starting at $1,295. ModelSim XE is also available as stand alone development option starting at $945. Copies of Foundation ISE/MXE bundled product is available via the local Xilinx sales representatives. 

Xilinx is the only supplier in the industry that offers the risk-free upgrade program by including a $1,000 voucher from MTI with the purchase of your ModelSim XE product. This voucher is good towards the purchase of any ModelSim PE or ModelSim SE product from Model Technology. With the purchase of a product upgrade, the Xilinx edition can be used through the remainder of the term of the time-based license. With the purchase of a ModelSim XE, an MTI upgrade means the license to use ModelSim XE is free.
